We came, we saw, we conquered: NAB 2016!

Another great year at NAB, 2016 – this show just keeps getting better. The big talk of NAB 2016 has to be the future of VR filmmaking, with GoPro showcasing Omni and YouTube introducing spacial audio and live streaming in 360-degrees – very cool! In the conferences and one-on-one discussions, however, it was all about the cloud. Sohonet had a very busy week, so here are some of our highlights: Sohonet’s Pat Sumby got the week off to a great start by joining a whole host of industry talent to discuss  The Future of Cinema Distribution. Pat’s presentation on migration of standard distribution problems into cloud workflows, was complemented by the contributions of John Hurst, CTO of Cinecert, Mark Collins, Director of Projection Technologies at Marcus Theatre and Richard Welsh, Focc 2016 Program Chair and CEO of Sundog Media Toolkit. The audience was packed out and the session was brilliantly moderated by Jim Whittlesey, CTO of Eikon Group. tshirt runLater that night the Sohonet team took to the strip to deliver our unique ‘networking’ t-shirts to those heading to our cocktail party the following night – you may have spotted us running from hotel to hotel! Those who requested a t-shirt and wore it to our party got something special… Sohonet’s annual cocktail party on the Monday was a raucous affair as usual and it was brilliant to see so many of you donning Sohonet’s bespoke martini t-shirts!(see evidence below). We also had great fun serving our personalised cocktails: The FastLane, The Pipeline and the ClearView and handing out our ‘saucy’ Sriracha bottles! The cocktail party was to celebrate the launch of their North American technical specification for air-ready program deliveries and the evening went very well, so thank you to the DPP team responsible for pulling it together! In between and for the rest of the week, our team met dozens of customers, ran demos of our latest prototypes, toured the trade show, handed out swag and generally basked in the awesomeness that is NAB. If you didn’t make it out there this year, we hope to see you in 2017.
