Award-winning animation and visual effects studio, Animal Logic, has been inspiring audiences with great stories, breathtaking visuals and groundbreaking technology for 30 years, having worked on Hollywood blockbusters The Great Gatsby, The Matrix and Captain Marvel. Quick to adopt remote production tools across the site, we talked to Animal Logic Media Engineer, Harry Smith, about how they collaborated on-site and remotely, around the globe.
We talk to the animation powerhouse that is Animal Logic and see how they’ve been responding to Covid 19 and look at how they’ve been using Sohonet’s ClearView Flex to facilitate remote review across the globe and hit key production milestones.
The shift to remote working following the pandemic meant Animal Logic, like many others, demanded a system that would “maintain color fidelity and stable frame rate” ensuring people could focus on what they were seeing. Smith stated that while they other found solutions to this issue, they “weren’t able to provide a stable viewing experience for the number of viewers we needed to support.”
After adopting ClearView Flex, Smith discusses that the software allowed him and his team to set up reviews and assign “30 viewers on a single stream”. ClearView Flex ensured Animal Logic to continue to hit production milestones on cross site projects – in particular Warner Bros’ animated feature Super Pets.
Smith states that Flex helped maintain communication between teams in Vancouver and Sydney working on Super Pets too – he further states that “Flex has allowed [us] to share content and discuss that content live with our clients.” Undoubtedly ClearView Flex will remain a permanent fixture of our work, not just as a result of COVID-19 and social distancing, but equally to provide convenience and efficiency.
